Sleeping Beauty was raped in the original version of the story!

In an early version of this classic story, published in 1634 by Giambattista Basile, entitled « The Sun, Moon and Talia, » the famous Sleeping Beauty was not dead because she has pricked her finger by a spindle but because of a flax splinter caught under her fingernail.

She was later found by a prince who was chasing, and as he could not wake her, he raped her while she was unconscious. The princess then gave birth to two children and one of them removed the flax splinter from her finger as he was sucking it, which woke her up.
