In Germany, running out of petrol on a motorway may inflict a 5-year-imprisonment penalty on you!

Motorways in Germany don’t have a fixed speed limit, but it is advisable to drive at about 130 miles per hour. This does not mean that you can drive pell-mell; there are many strict rules that should be obeyed when driving on German motorways.

In fact, running out of petrol on a German motorway is illegal and can lead to heavy fines or the withdrawal of the driving license for 6 months. In some cases (for example, when someone’s life is in danger), being out of petrol is considered a crime and the driver can face a prison sentence of up to five years.
