Many people think that slavery is a stigma of the past. The reality, however, is that slavery still affects nearly 30 million people today.
The country with the biggest number of slaves is India with nearly 14 million right there, followed by China (2.9 millions) and Pakistan (over two millions). Mauritania has the highest percentage of a country’s enslaved population, with 4% of enslaved Mauritanians. No country is immune from slavery, even the United States, has roughly 59,000 slaves.
Experts estimate that the number of enslaved people in developed countries is 6 to 10 times higher than most people believe.
